Who says cats and dogs can’t shape a brand’s visual identity? At DolFinContent, we helped a leading pet care company do exactly that—using the power of generative AI.
Petcare Plus, a pet insurance provider with over a million covered animals across the US and Canada, recently came to us with a bold new request: develop a full suite of illustrations to fuel their internal branding. There was just one catch—they had never used illustrations before.
With minimal existing brand visuals to reference, this was the perfect opportunity to let AI do what it does best: accelerate creative exploration without compromising quality.
The Brief: From Zero to Illustrated Hero
Petcare Plus was looking to liven up their employer brand. Their team wanted fresh, pet-centric assets like digital stickers and virtual backgrounds to reflect their values, showcase team culture, and bring some fun to everyday comms.
There were no previous illustrations, no defined 3D style, and only a few image references.
That blank slate? We saw it as a launchpad.
The client asked for visuals that were unexpected, fun, and aligned with their existing brand colors. And so, our AI-enhanced creative team got to work—building an entire visual direction in record time.
Creating a Visual Style with AI
We used a powerful combination of tools to shape Petcare Plus’ custom illustration pack:
- ChatGPT for ideation, tone exploration, and copy experimentation
- Midjourney for visual direction and rapid concept iterations
- Adobe Photoshop for post-production refinement and brand color matching
Our first priority was testing illustration styles—3D, hand-drawn, abstract, playful—and seeing which resonated most with the Petcare Plus team.
Within hours, we generated hundreds of AI-assisted samples for review. This approach eliminated the limitations of conventional design timelines and opened up an incredible space for visual experimentation.
Instead of scouring the internet for a perfect reference, we used style-inspired prompts—even borrowing inspiration from non-pet examples, like illustrated food or clothing items—and reimagined them for dogs and cats. That’s the kind of shortcut AI makes possible.
Narrowing Down the Look
After exploring over ten visual directions, we honed in on two standout styles:
- A 3D anthropomorphic character set featuring pets with expressive, fashion-forward details
- A hand-drawn sketch style that offered personality, warmth, and flexibility
Petcare Plus loved both approaches. In the end, they asked us to combine elements from each, creating a hybrid that was both vibrant and character-driven—uniquely theirs.
Writing for Personality (With a Little Help)
Along the way, our team used ChatGPT to generate taglines and pet-themed copy to match the illustrations. AI helped us brainstorm turns of phrase and puns, but the final wording was a curated blend of AI inspiration and human creativity.
Needless to say, the process was just as fun as the final results.
Final Polish and Brand Perfection
Even the best AI-generated images require a human touch. That’s where our design team stepped in.
We used Photoshop to fine-tune colors, fix odd details (think scarf-wrapped tails or three-eyed poodles), and ensure on-brand color consistency across all 750+ illustrations.
While Midjourney got us close using hex codes in the prompts, final brand alignment still required manual color corrections to get things exactly right.
What We Learned (And What You Can Apply)
This project delivered dozens of internal branding assets and hundreds of lovable pet illustrations—all completed in a fraction of the time traditional workflows would have taken.
Here are some key takeaways from the process:
1. AI Saves Time and Expands Possibility
We tested more visual options in a day than a human team could in a week. That agility sparked better creative choices.
2. Consistency Requires Planning
We built a shared prompt library and refined it throughout. Consistent results across hundreds of outputs took iteration—but the outcome was worth it.
3. Post-Production Still Matters
AI gets you 80% of the way there. Human design finishes the job—especially when brand standards are non-negotiable.
4. Collaboration Gets a Boost
Our internal and client teams worked faster and more effectively by reacting to AI-generated samples, rather than starting from scratch. This sped up approvals and sparked fresh ideas.
AI Is Redefining Creative Workflows
Projects like this show the real value of integrating AI into design—not as a replacement for creativity, but as a catalyst.
At DolFinContent, we’ve helped brands build new visual languages, test content at scale, and cut production timelines in half by combining human talent with AI efficiency.
If your team is curious about how generative AI can help you scale and evolve your brand design, we’re ready to show you what’s possible.
